Timeline editing |
|
|
I have a situation that I could use some expert adivce on. I'm new at using Premier so K.I.S.
I'm using a Dell XPS with all the bells and whistles and Adobe Premier 6.0 and here's my situation.
I have two separate clips with their own timecode sequences that I need to knit together into one video. They are both fully edited scenes from the same shoot, using the same camera and all the same settings in Premier (30fps, interlaced DV...)
It was my intention to string them together and rewrite the timecode. But when I attempted to do that, I got a message that said I "may" encounter gaps and errors in the playback.
So... my question is: Is there any way to renumber the timecode of the clip I'm adding in P6 so that these gaps and errors are reduced or eliminated? Basically, I'm pasting them onto the end of an existing project.
I looked through the 5000+ posts in the forum but didn't find anything that quite addressed this recent dilemma.
Thanks

| I don't get what you are trying to do...but place your clips the way you want them on the timeline. export them to tape and then recapture the clip and that will give you a complete timecode from beginning to end. |

To expand on Terrence's suggestion: Timecode is not generated by Premeire in this instance, it is added by your recording device. The signal is sent to your recorder, where it is laid to tape along with a timecode track of the recorders own generation. You won't ever get timecode gaps when sending a signal to your recorder.
Your 'gaps and errors' message (one I've never seen) might be telling you that you've left holes in your timeline -- I'm not sure. But it isn't telling you anything about timecode.

Thanks Terrence & RGBaker: that's encouraging information. I was under the impression that Premeire could restripe the SMPTE but if not I'll do as you suggest.
On a follow up. I know the finished project is going to be at least 5.8Gb. I'm have the option of using Sonic DVD, REALPlayer or Microsoft Movie Maker as a conduit to burn a Master DVD copy. Any thoughts on the best compression codec-v-best quality playback format? I'll need to squeeze it at least by 1.1Gb to fit on a DVD-R. |

If you mean that you must reduce the size of the MPEG2 output to fit on a DVD for an STB, try a reduced data rate. If you mean you are wide open to suggestions for delivery codecs, then I'd experiment with one of the WME settings to get a suitably sized wmv file.
