I recorded a few tapes in HD and should "degrade" these to standard
definition to be able edit these combined with other material in
standard definition and using standard technology. Anybody knows how
can this be done?

If you really did record a "tape" in HD, then you used a D-VHS recorder.
Simply connect the FireWire output of the D-VHS to the FireWire input of
your computer, and copy the recording to disk, then use whatever editing
tool you want that supports HD. Every tool that supports HD will also
allow you to convert down to SD (like DVD).
