I am in the market for a 40-45 inch diplay. Popular opinion at most of
the high end home theater stores is that the Pioneer Elite 930 is the
way to go; especially for movies. I was nearly convinced until I
finally saw it side by side with a Panasonic TH-42PX500U. To my eye,
the Panasonic actually looks better and costs about $1500 less. I am
talking about out-of-th-box on both. I'm sure both could look better
when adjusted. The reviews in popular magazines on both are good. Any
thoughts?

On a different note, I also looked into the 45 inch Sharp Aquios LCD.
It can display 1080 unlike the plasma. I thought the higher resolution
was great but the picture looked a bit more artificial and two
dimentional. In the end I thought I'd rather watch a 720 plasma than a
1080 LCD. I was also a little turned off by the reports of LCD's
inability to handle fast motion as well as a plasma. What do others
think?

I found the Pioneer and Panasonic plasma TVs very close in picture quality.
The Pioneer units seem to come with a separate tuner, the Panasonics mostly
have the tuner built in.
I would prefer a built-in tuner, or none. I use Cable for program source.
The Pioneer 43" size is probably perfect for me, but the resolution is a
little low.
The Panasonic specs describe 8 billion colors, the Pioneer specs show 1
billion. Their may
be a perceived difference watching very dark scenes where the number of
colors is important.
So far, I'm leaning toward the Panasonic TH-50PX50U.

What I really would like is a 43" Panasonic with a resolution of 1366 X 768
(or better).

My Pioneer Elite Pro HD-930 is being delivered and installed on Friday
11/18. I'll let you know how it is in real life after the install ad
watching a couple of movies. My Directv HD receiver DVR has been
recording HBO's Rome in HD I'll look at that too. I too l many
screens including the Panasonic. I went with the Pioneer for a couple
of reasons. The picture looked terrific in SD in 4:5 format. The
blacks looked blacker on the Pioneer. Finally the cool high gloss
black surround on the screen goes well with the piano gloss finish of
my Def Tec sub woofer. Not important to me but very important to my
wife. All electronics have to have a WAF factor. [Wife Acceptance
Factor].

Hmmm,

Pioneer costs more. Question is whether the extra cost is just.
(I think Pioneer has longer warranty)
I decided on Panasonic and happy with Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver and
Infinity speaker set.

If it looks better to your eyes, then buy it. Why ask for other

opinions...yours is the only one that counts.
