Take a harddrive from a 5000 series and put in to a 4500 ser |
|
|
I would like to buy a 120gb harddrive that someone has for $60.00 that
is from a 5000(not a 5500) series ReplayTV unit.
So my question is will that harddrives programming/software work in/with
my 4500 series ReplayTV unit?
Also will everything like Commercial Advanced and the Internet Sharing
still work as normal?
Please let me know as I have a little time to get this harddrive.
Thanks,
Joe

you will have to re-image it using rtvpatch.
start reading rfom here
http://www.grandallusion.com/#reimagingandactivation
everything should work after that. |

Do I have to re-image it using rtvpatch or will it work just by
unplugging the old/smaller sized harddrive from my 4500 series ReplayTV
then plugging in the newer/bigger sized harddrive from the 5000(not
5500) series ReplayTV?
Thanks,
Joe

You will need to connect it to your computer to install the
appropriate software for your model. This process is easy, other than
what you may have to do to connect it to your computer (this MAY
require temporarily removing the CD drive).
Note that if your IDE cable is long enough, you can continue to use
the Replay to provide power to the drive (saving a little work).
Also, once you set up the new Replay drive, you may consider
connecting it to the computer again to save the current image. This
will save customizing time when you want to do this again (with the
same series Replay, of course).

This harddrive is from 5000 series ReplayTV unit with the software
already downloaded into it, because it has been used in a 5000 series
ReplayTV for awhile.
So why to I need to re-download the software if it is already on the
harddrive?
Is this because the the programming/software is different from a 5000
series to a 4500 series?
Has anyone tried to see if it will work?
What I confused about is those sellers on ebay who sell upgrade/larger
sized harddrives for ReplayTV's they say these harddrives work for all
ReplayTV's.

There is no way 5xxx series software will work in a 4xxx series machine.
They do not have the same hardware. The CPU is different.
If you try it you risk turning the 4xxx into a piece of junk.
It might over write one of the programmable EEPROMS with bad data.
When you win an auction on eBay you have to tell the seller what
model ReplayTV you have so he can load the proper software on it
prior to shipment.
