Yes, install mfs_ftp on both. Then use SmartFTP (on a PC) with its FXP
support to transfer shows directly from one TiVo to the other.

Here's a tangental question, is it possible for a standalone unit to
playback programs recorded on a DirecTivo? And vice-versa? We're buying
the folks a new Humax DVD Tivo for Xmas and will end up with their old SA
unit. We use DirecTV so it's not like we'd really have much use for the
other unit. But if I could hack things a bit it might be worth considering.
For that matter, what's available subscription-wise to get service for the
SA unit to record from a separate DirecTV receiver? Probably cheaper to
just get 'nother DirecTivo though... |

For this, it matters if you have series1 or series2 boxes and it assumes
you have your box hacked so the shows aren't encrypted.
From series1 to series1, no problem. DirecTivo and SA boxes can share
shows.
I have not done series2 to series2 testing.
It's been over a year since I did the series1 to series2 testing. Some
of the permutations worked out of the box while a few of the permutations
required the ty1to2 program to be run to convert the audio in the ty
stream (you would get video but no sound without this).
Some searching on www.dealdatabase.com for ty1to2 can probably get you
more info if no one else posts with further information. I would expect
there to be people here who do this though. I'll be getting a SA2 in
another month at which time I'll know more of what is easy to do and what
isn't.

You can pay either monthly (~$13) or get a lifetime (~$300) for the SA and
it will be able to record from a separate DirecTV receiver. I do this and
it works fine. If you don't already have a separate DirecTV receiver,
that'll cost $5/month for the access card/receiver.

Both series2 and I'd hack the SA as needed.
Yeah but ddb is such an adventure to go digging through sometimes. Good
suggestion though.

That's what I figured. I've got the external DirecTV receiver already. But
given the $5/month/household it's probably more cost effective to just get a
2nd DirecTivo instead. Then the question would be getting MRV working on
it.
It's really quite annoying how DirecTV has refused to keep pace with the
latest Tivo features. It just smacks of them keeping the Tivo stuff long
enough, without enough features, to let them present the NDS units to an
unknowing audience. If they actually implemented all of what v7 provides
they'd have real trouble trying to push that other crap.
