Has everyone noticed that Lucas released the Trilogy dvd's with 6.1
surround ex but the latest episodes 1 2 and 3 are only 5.1 even though
it states on the box surround ex? At least on my av receiver the trilogy
discs are 6.1. I would think Lucas would have authored the latter discs
as well.

The disks do give out 6.1 ex but due to an authoring error you have to force
it yourself via your hardware.

Your receiver should have two modes for Surround EX, one in which it
automatically detects the flag and turns on for appropriate movies, and
another in which EX decoding is left on at all times.

I find it's usually best to just leave EX on by default. Even movies not
specifically mixed for EX usually matrix well into a center back
channel.

Thats what everyone has been telling you, they are not flagged correctly, so
you have to manually set your receiver to EX mode....

You're right Josh,my receiver does detect when a dvd has the flagged
signal (matrix or discreet) back surround channel. That is the case for
the star wars trilogy discs but the back surround channel with phantom
menace, attack of the clones and sith do not have the flag detection
3/3/.1 only 3/2/.1...

Are you talking about the current episode 4,5,6 boxset (New
Hope-->Jedi) or the new Limited Edition 4,5,6 boxset coming out in
December???
