DirectTivo resets each other |
|
|
My directTivo abruptly resets itself, going into the "powering up" screen,
etc. This has happened twice only but both times it happened when the house
lights stayed on and there was no power loss.
Time for a new one?

Likely not, that situation may occur infrequently, but it shouldn't happen
multiple times every month. |

OK. Since it only happened twice so far, I'll just keep an eye on it.
Thanks.

My first guess would be overheating.

Just happened for the 3rd time in a month. How do I solve the overheating?
I have not changed anything in its setup or position.

First off, what's the current internal temperature? It's listed in the
System Information section of the Messages & Setup menu. Mine runs, on
average, around 34C. What's yours? If it's significantly more than 34C
then you definitely have a temp problem. It either needs better airflow
into the sides and out the back of the case or you need to replace it's
internal fan. Companies like 'weaknees.com' sell nice fan kits, I have
their dual drive/dual fan kit in my DirecTivo and it's worked great.

Yes, note the down arrow icon that appears. Several screens use it.
| Quote: | My "Internal temperature" is listed as "39C (Normal)". There is no
obstruction to airflow around my Hughes DirectTivo but I cannot hear any

going either. Is this something I can try to fix myself (instructions?)

should I simply look for a new Tivo with a good rebate?

39C is high but not 'excessively so'. Is there really clear space all
around your unit? Could you, perhaps, rearrange it such that it was out on
a table in clear air? Let it cool off for a few hours and then recheck the
temp. Don't know how your unit has it's fan positioned but most are just
inside a grill on the back. I usually just poke something nonconductive in
there (like a toothpick or sliver of cardboard) and see if it gets struck by
the moving fan. The fans aren't bulletproof so don't do this without being
careful. |
