Just about any font comes with options like "Bold" or :Italics".
Another option is "Outline" and even better "Shadow". A light yellow
interior with shadow, makes a very readable font.

The black outline/dropshadow, etc. are more a function of the
software which inserts the text than of the font itself. Fonts only
describe the outline of the letter shapes. Any additional features
like shadows are not really part of the font. If you had mentioned
how you were doing this (what software, etc.) it might be possible
to offer a more direct answer. |

Well my OS is a bit limited in this respect I guess.
I use the BeOS OS and I can make subtitles but I like it better
if there would be a black outline.
I did not find any option in BeOS to create such an outline.
What I did find ( and forgot where I found it :-( ) is
a white font in a black circle. Maybe that would be good too.
White on a black square is worth a try too.
|
Does BeOS use TrueType fonts? Adobe fonts?
You still didn't mention what software you are using.
BeOS is just the operating system platform. It doesn't
do things like insert text into video that I've ever heard of. |

Not sure guess so.

I use personalStudio which can make subtitles but I prefer to make
text with a word processor.
It is very simple to put text in a movie with BeOS.

Every word processor that I have ever seen, lets you select the Font,
what size it is, and a variety of Options such as outline or Shadow.
That should give you white with black outline.

No, BeOs appears to be an unsupported orphan. Guess it never made
the "critical mass" to survive. For that matter "personalStudio", at least
the BeOs version, also appears to be an unsupported orphan.

the free stuff on up, can make drop shadows, outlines, whatever out of

keying one iteration of the type over another, and offsetting them,
like you can do in photoshop.
|
"Edmumd" doesn't seem to understand the roles of the operating system
(BeOS) vs. the layered application(s) (personalStudio). The OS likely
plays *no* direct role in your ability to impose text on video.
You should be grateful that it continues to work. Hope you have all
the backup and re-installation discs since you seem to be running an
orphan application on an orphan operating system. :-(( |

That is right, still the old BeoS verson works a hell of a lot better
then the later windows version.

Yes i can do that, I was hoping for a faster easier way.

Yes I do have all installation disks her somewhere under a thick layes
of dust from many years. You know why? Because BeOS doesn't need to be
installed and formatted every two months or so like windoze.
Yes it is limited in both software and hardware but it works.
Thanks for reply,

And most amazingly, BeOS runs only on hard drives that
never crash and on computers whose power supplies never
fail. Isn't that remarkable? |

Re: Outlined fonts where? |

Within your CG program, you should have controls for things like edge
thickness, shadow, italics, leading/tracking, sizing, etc. Under the
color controls, every program I've ever worked on, from the oldest
chyron to the newest inscriber, has controls to select the edge color
and thickness, usually also independent controls for face and shadow
color choices too. I am unfamiliar with your particular app, if it
truly lacks these things, then go do it in p-shop or a similar image
editing program for your platfoem, then import as a luma or alpha key.
Best of luck. |
