digital-8 recommendations for replacement for Sony DCR-TRV 2 |
|
|
I have a Sony DCR-TRV 230 that died on me recently, and am looking to
replace it with a newer model. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Can anyone vouch for or against any of these more current Sony models?
What do they have that the 230 lacks? Can I use my extended battery
from the 230 with any of these?
Sony DCR-TRV280
Sony DCR-TRV480
Sony DCR-TRV260
Much appreciated...

All 3 of those models are much poorer than your 230. If you were
expecting newer models to be better than the older models, you will be
disappointed. The current models are cheaper and poorer.
The 260 and 280 are missing (audio/video) analog inputs and cannot play
analog Hi8 and 8mm recordings. All 3 models are missing: headphone,
LANC and Ext. Mic jacks. The 280 and 480 are missing the S-Video
jacks.
All models since your 230 have poor low-light ability because they use
the tiny 1/6" CCD's.
If you want a camcorder similar to your great 230 you will need to find
an old used one somewhere. Look for models with a middle digit of a 2
or 3 in the model number. It might be worth fixing your 230.
Anything made in the last 4 years will suck in low light. Every year
since your 230 was made, Sony has reduced the price and removed a
feature or two. There is really nothing left for them to remove this
coming model year so they might just discontinue the D8 line after this
year.

Thanks for your reply....
Well that sucks. Who other than Sony is making a decent model these
days? I am especially interested in the analog in.
