350d vs d50 prices |

Rebel XT looks like the better deal at this point.
Still going to hold off before actually buying one of
these.
From what I can see from prices on buydig.com:
350d:
body 714 - 150(rebate)
lens 179 - 10 (rebate for 75-300)
lens 69 (50mm f/1.8)
mem 59 (512M)

d50:
body 594
lens 287
mem 0 (512m)

I hope that the weighting you give the price difference between
these two cameras (just $20) is a lot less than what you give other
factors. Otherwise you've got about a 50/50 chance of choosing the
wrong camera. Rather, ask yourself which camera you'd choose if it
were given to you as a gift. Then ask yourself if you'd stick with
that decision if you had to pay a $100 fee just for that camera. It
would be nice if you had the use of both cameras for several months.
Then you'd have a good idea which would suit you better, but it
doesn't appear that you'll have that answer if your choice comes
down to which camera can be bought for a few dollars less. I'm sure
each camera has its own advantages and disadvantages compared to the
other. That's what you should focus on rather than price. |

no one could possibly assist you with that comparison since it is at best
incomplete...
the 350d does not have a $150 rebate. there is no detail as to which nikon
"lens 287" you are referring to...
the difference price between the d50 and 350d at buydig is about $40 when
each is purchased with the respective manufacturers 18-55mm kit lens. the
350d being the more expensive one, but also being the more full featured
camera with specification on par with the d70.

oops meant to say that the 350d does not have a $225 rebate.
you indicated that you thought it had by stating the $714 price less a $150
rebate. the $714 price on buydigs site is after the $75 rebate... the $75
rebate can be doubled if the camera is purchased with certain canon lens...
but that makes it come down just $75 from the $714 price, no the $150 off
the $714 price as you indicated. also the free memory card that buydig
includes with the d50 is 256mb not 512mb. and it appears that you are
comparing the canon with a 50mm prime lens plus a 70-300mm zoom to the d50
with a 24-200mm. those are really two entirely different outfits so of
course there is no surprise that the prices will be different (as will be
the utility one derives from them).
