Humax DVD DVR & Digital Cable |
|
|
I am looking at TiVo - the Humax DVR w/DVD meets my needs by letting me swap
out one box for another and having enough capacity to be worthwhile - the
DVD-R is nice as well
The TiVo series two can remote control the Digital Cable box so that the
digital cable channels can be recorded - there are nice diagrams on TiVo
website showing how.
Can the HUMAX also be use like that? I need to know before the rebate
expires :D

I'm sure it can. They generally use IR blasters, however, which aren't
100% reliable. Most folks say they're reliable enough to use without
getting too frustrated (very few complaints seen here except for the
*very* occasional missed channel change). If you're lucky enough to
have a digital cable box that can be controlled with a serial cable
you'd be much better off though.

the Series two have a control cable that plugs between the DVR and the
Digital Cable - does HUMAX have that interface? Example

Re: Humax DVD DVR & Digital Cable |

I just set up a humax 80gb with a Motorola digital cable box (Cox cable) in
Newport news Va (Daughter's place) I used svideo from the box to humax &
svideo to TV. used the serial connection to control the cable box. No
problems (better than I expected)
I had heard stories of disabled serial ports on cable boxes, etc. so I was
not optimistic, but worked out great!
Lifetime account, waiting for my rebate check...
