I have this vague memory that there is a crucial driver or plugin of
some kind that's needed to burn CDs or DVDs in something other than
WMA or WMV format. It has to do with either MP, Movie Maker, or
Media Center. Sonic-something or sound-something, maybe, but that
could be wrong.

Ok, I admit this is not much to go on, but I'm hoping somebody will
know what I mean. Supposedly, this is something every serious DVD
authoring dude needs. :-)

Its called a codec, but it has nothing to do with the burning. You need
various codecs to encode video files into various formats. There is no
one size fits all tool.
