How to mount prints to hang? |
|
|
Sorry if this has been covered extensively before, but I can't find
much via Google on the web or the rec.photo archives. Perhaps many
people don't mount their prints themselves, but I would like to start
taking some of my prints (from mpix.com, not inkjet), and mounting
them. 11 x 14's and larger.
How do you guys do it, if you do it yourselves? Is it difficult to
do? Can you mount your prints on foamcore board? Are there books on
this?
Thanks for any help.

There are all sorts of styles. I tend towards what I think of as
"museum mounting" -- avoiding anything irreversible, single white
overmat, archival materials throughout. This is quite simple. The
print usually gets attached with linen tape, often by making a hinge.
Foamcore is a fine backing board. It's stiff and light. Also thick,
so it might be a problem in certain frames, but for most frames it's
one of the standard things they expected people to use.
On the other hand, multi-layer colored mats with extra decorative cuts
is *hard* -- nearly unfeasible with simple hand tools.
I'm afraid I don't know of a book, but there's gotta be one, maybe
somebody else will know it.
