Upside Down Video |
|
|
Am using Sonic MyDVD6.0 Deluxe. I've spent a ton converting all of my dad's
old 8mm film to .avi files. The plan is to surprise him, my bro and sis this
Christmas with DVD's made from these old home movies. And I mean OLD!
Problem is that they play upside down in the preview screen while trying to
build the DVD's. Checking Microsoft's Knowledge Base they talk about a
workaround by re-capturing the files in something called the .avi IYUV
format. That's not an option (I don't think) since I had the film converted
with a service who gave the files to me on an external hard drive. Any help
or guidance is greatly appreciated.

first take a deep breath..... if they are already captured to a h.d.
you probably don't need mydvd6 or re-capturing either. figure out
what format they are in on the h.d. and report back. they may be avi
or mpg and we'll go from there. most likely they either need
rendering with tmpgenc/cce, etc. or authoring with dvd-lab/or another.
what is the file extension of the files on the h.d?

np. next try playing the avis in a media/dvd player (powerdvd,
windows media player, etc) on your computer and make sure they are ok
- if you don't have one that will open them try the free "media player
classic" - get v6.4.8.6 here in either win98 or winXP flavor whichever
you need for your computer - but it should be winXP to handle the file
sizes encountered with dvds.....
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358
if they play ok on the computer it means the computer has the
necessary codec and we can move on to your options for making them
into dvds. if not we'll send you on the great codec hunt :)
ps try to reply to messages under what you are responding to, it makes
the thread much easier to follow.

Yep. They play just fine using WMP under Win XP Home. Thanks again for your
help and patience. I would have replied sooner but I was in Vegas.
Thanks again

np. hope the tables were fair... on to making dvds. from the avis
now you need to choose how to convert them. with a "real" encoder
like cce or tmpgenc and then an authoring program or using one of the
all in one type. may as well try the easy way first. there is a free
version of vso DivxToDvd that might work. from this page get the
0.5.2 free version and give it a whirl.
