Is it a beige G3 with a serial port?
Nope. It's a blue and white one, no serial ports.
Blue and white G3s have an adb port, which is what you need for the
Logic dongle, not the serial port. The serial port is used for midi
interfaces.
|
What's an "ADB" port? I see Firewire, USB, network, keyboard,
audio, and SCSI (card), but that's it.

Keyboard would be the ADB port. But usually you use a USB keyboard and
mouse with a B & W. |

It's the small round multi-pin connector[1] that Macs used for their
keyboard and mouse in the beige models, but I thought it was replaced by
USB in the Blue & White G3.
[1] Very similar to the Mac serial printer connector in appearance, but
distinguished by a pattern like a bunch of grapes moulded into a flat on
the body. It is very easy to confuse the two types - and very
difficult to straighten the pins afterwards.

My B/W G3 has both USB and ADB.

Ah, my faulty memory. Perhaps it was the first one with built-in USB,
allowing the use of a USB keyboard, but still retaining the ADB option.

The blue and white G3 was the first and *only* one to have both built-in
USB and ADB. |
