I'm editing with Magix Movie Edit Pro 2004. Everything works great
except that the DVD+RW media I burn doesn't play automatically when it's
loaded in to my (Panasonic) player.

If I press the "menu" button, I get the DVD main menu. if I press
"play", it will play from the beginning. But if I don't press anything,
it just stays at the DVD built-in splash screen while the LED display
says "STOP".

Is this a know problem, or have I missed something? Thanks!

Normally to get what you want there are settings to choose during
compilation. The video you want to automatically play should be set as
"first play". The other settings should be when the video is done go to the
menu, when the menu button is pressed during playback point it to the menu.

From your description you have set the menu as the "first play", meaning
that is what you setup first. At least, that's the message I get not knowing
anything whatsoever about the Magix software. Most softwares work in a
similar manner, and I assume Magix is not a company that has gone off the
beaten path that much.

Bring in your video file first, and look at the settings to assign it as
"first play". Naturally your remote buttons must be set and therefore place
the choice of pushing the menu button or title button to take the user to
the main menu. On the main menu the "play" button takes the user to the
beginning of your video.

If you have only one video and no others, then having a menu is useless. You
could simply bring in the video and have it play once and then stop at the
end. Whenever the user wants to see it again they simply push the "play"
button.

In another single video scenerio you tell the software to repeat the video
by choosing an "end action" feature to go back to the beginning of the
video. You video will then loop until someone pushes the "stop" button, and
therefore the "play" would begin the looping video again.

What you are missing is the chance to set this disc up properly by having,
in what I assume is called "having not read the manual for the software"
syndrome. DVD authoring and other software packages are not psychic. They do
not automatically know what it is you want, nor do those who wrote the
program think the way you may happen to think about a DVD project. They did
however put all the tools for gaining your satisfactory end result within
that program, only you must access what that is and use the software
accordingly.
