Is there some way to search eBay for video cameras without getting all the
accessories, like batteries, cases, and manauls? A search on "camcorders"
gets over 600 camcorder-related hits which is 'way too much to scroll
through.

Thanks.

Reading the search tips for ebay might help. You can put a word preceded by
a hyphon and it won't display those ads. Example would be -manual would
eliminate those with manual in the title.

I refine the search by using terms like "TRV" instead of "camcorder"
and then sort by price to eliminate the accessories.

It's better not to get too specific, you might miss a good deal. Richards
method (sorting by price) is the one I use.

If you don't want to be more specific, just let it find everything and then

select one of the "Matching Categories" at the left side of the screen.

Thanks for the tips. I tried using the hyphen today. It got rid of some
listings but I'd have to put in a lot of hyphenated words to get a
reasonable list.

I do ask for a sort by increasing price. That puts a lot of non-hyphenated
accessories at the top of the list, eg I specified "-case" but not "-bag".

A search on "Minolta" or "8mm" gets a nice short list. :)

It would be nice to mask out all the non-working machines. You have to
look at the details to find out the machine does not eject the recording
medium or the display does not light up. I suspect the profit is in the
inflated shipping fee on these.

It's also tiring when searching from Canada to have to look at the details
of all the listings to see so many which do not ship outside the
continental USA. It would help if such things could be specified in the
search criteria.

Thanks again.

Are there other qualifiers like that ? I've tried some of the standard
Boolean expressions, but to no avail . . .

I think quote marks might work. Here's a link with some other tips. A
minus/hyphen sign in front of a group of words in parenthesis eliminates all
the words inside them. I usually did them one at a time so that's nice to
know.

Steve

the terms are all "and"ed togehter. spaces can be accomodated by enclosing
a term in quotation marks "...". That's all I found. There is a button to
push to email questions about the website.
