DVD on VCR/DVD goes to b/w instead of colour after 5 mins |

About 5–7 minutes after switching on, good colour DVD picture turns
monochrome. Switching off, waiting a couple of minutes, then switching
on restores colour but only for a similar short time.
Kept watching the B/W picture tonight for a while, and suddenly colour
returned - really crisp, good picture - but every so often it kept
switching between colour/monochrome for some minutes, and back again.
Not a head problem, I think, as the DVD screen is b/w even without a
disc present when the machine's acting up.
These symptoms are recent - till a couple of weeks ago all worked
perfectly. Video and all TV channels are absolutely fine.
Maybe related: Quite often TV doesn't "recognise" AV2 (video/dvd scart
conn to TV SCART) only TV and AV1, till another cold start. Could this
somehow be causing the monochrome problem? (SCARTS are properly fitted
and have checked this repeatedly).
TIA for any advice (other than "scrap it and buy a new one"!)
