need recommendations for standalone vhs to dvd |
|
|
having looked at the group archive, I can see this question comes up a lot
but I'm still non the wiser as to the best solution for me. A technophobe
friend has 150+ vhs tapes she'd like to convert to dvd. I suggested a
standalone dvd recorder which reads vhs tapes would be the best solution but
I'm at a loss for which one to recommend.
Some of the tapes are old and worn (though still playable and watchable) so
I need a fairly robust unit which can read them. auto picture & sound
correction/improvement would be nice, as would the ability to create simple
menu's and chapters but these features arent essential. I'm more concerned
about ease of use and dvd quality.
does anyone have a recommendation?
thanks

I have a Zenith xbr413 it copies everything on tape.
Don't know if they still produce this model.
Put the tape in one side the dvd blank in the other
push copy and that is it. You must finalize the disk
but it is a few clicks on the remote. Instructions manual that came with it
is very good.

There are lots of questions to ask before making a recommendation. Like, how
much are you prepared to spend and what kind of tapes are you speaking of,
homemade or commercial recordings? If any of the tapes are copy-protected a
combination VCR/DVD unit purchased in the USA isn't going to do it. Is your
preference likely to be computer copying or with standalone units using yout
Hi-Fi?
To cover all exigencies I wouldn't get a combination unit. I'd get a good
quality DVD burner with a Hard Drive (like a Panasonic), a relatively
inexpensive VCR (like a JVC) and a video enhancer which would remove
macrovision (like a Sima or a Go). Denzil. |
