This is kinda off topic but I've just bought a video capture card and
installed it, I have a picture of the only instructions I got with it and
their support doesn't exist so i'm hoping you may be able to help me please
:)

Basically I can capture the video OK from my VCR onto my PC but there is no
audio at all! I have no idea where to plug the audio in into?? It is a
female plug, i've tried plugging the speakers into it and I can hear the
audio from the VCR but the problem is that it doesn't capture it so later
when I play it back there is no audio.

Is anyone here able to help me figure this out??

You need to tell us the Make and model of your capture
card.

Most likely there will be a small lead with a jack plug on both ends
supplied, you plug one end into the audio socket of video capture card and
the other into line-in on your PC's sound-card.

This is where i'm having trouble because I have integrated sound - at least
that is what Dell have told me. The card that I've got is an AOpen VA1000
card.

There are a number of VA1000 versions but I would hope you
have one of the VA1000 Lite 2 models as it uses the Philips Chip
and will do up to 720x576 @ 30fps. It has an Line Audio Input as
well as a Line Audio Output. (It is also only listed for Asia Pacific,
Taiwan.)

But sense you only mention the one audio connection I guess you
have one with the Conexant BT878 chipset and will only do 640x
480(max) at 30fps. The audio connection is a Line Audio Output.

All of these are more accurately described as TV Tuner cards,
although they can capture also. With the one you seem to have,
the audio is captured separately through your PC's audio setup.
The audio connection is to allow you to hear the TV capture
audio over your PC's audio setup. (It may not be needed as the
card is on the PCI bus and can pass the audio that way.)

To capture your audio you will need to connect the audio from
your external source to your PC's audio setup. Hopefully there
is a manual and/or help files that explain the details for your capture
software/drivers.

No, there isn't which is why i'm having so much trouble :( I think what I
have to do is connect the green cable (audio out) to my blue connection at
the back of my PC?? But I need some sort of an adaptor as they are both
female plugs!

No the Video Capture card should of come with a short cable with two stereo
jack plugs on each end - you plug one into the video card, and the other
into the Line-In on your PC's sound card. Some (not all) cards also support
use of a CD-Rom audio cable to transfer audio internally in the PC; these
almost never come with the relevant cable.

Yes you may need that short audio cable with male ends to
hear the audio from the cards tuner, or you may not need it.

For your external capture you need to connect the audio from
your VCR or other source to your audio card or the audio on
your MotherBoard. Then you need to tell your capture program
which audio input you are using. Your capture card appears to
have no audio input jack of its own.

I'm just totally confused! Thanks for the help though and being so patient
with me!!
My capture card didn't come with ANY cables except for the one I mentioned,
it was the ONLY cable it came with. It ONLY has an audio out plug on it. I
checked my motherboard piccy in the manual and can't see anything about
audio on it. I have no idea what to bloody do.

Ok, maybe we should gather some basic information.

You mentioned that your system was a Dell, this could make
things a little harder. Could you supply the Dell's Model # ?

You describe the card as a VA1000, is there any more to
the Model # ? (Don't worry if you can't.)

Go here : http://download.aopen.com.tw/default.aspx and
select "Video" for the product in the first box at the top of
the page. Select your card's model # (VA1000) in the next
box. This should bring you to the download page for your
card. There is a "Product Image" and a "Manual" that you
can download. Click on the image of a hard drive with a
red arrow above it. When you get to the next page, with the
mirror sites, right click and pick "Save Target As". It will
take awhile to download the manual.

While you are there note the names, Versions, and release
dates of the most recent drivers.

Once you have looked over the manual we can try and find
out what the sound setup is on your Dell. It will be listed in
the "Device Manager", so we can work from that, if we have
to. Hopefully the manual will describe how to establish that,
also.
