Hi,

I've been searching the internet on this one, and can't find anything.
Perhaps someone here knows a way out...

I have an M-Audio Firewire Audiophile, hooked to the Firewire 400 port
of my powerbook (10.4.3). There's a brand new LaCie Big Disk (Firewire
800, 500GB RAID 0) on the FireWire 800 port. The previous hard drive
was a firewire 400 drive, and it worked perfectly fine next to the
audiophile. The newer one doesn't. The drive itself always works very
well, but when it works in 800 mode (with a 9 pins to 9 pins cable),
the audiophile makes strange noises and goes silent and the leds start
flashing strangely. When it works in 400 mode (9 pins to 6 pin cable or
6 pins to 6 pins cable), all goes well.

So the question is: how can I make my new drive work at 800MB/s
together with my Audiophile.

Thanks for all help, it's very much appreciated!

Stupid quesiton: Have you tried asking M-Audio? They've been pretty
responsive when I've had questions in the past, and I don't even own one
of their products...

I have heard a few stories about LaCie drives and OS X, Firewire cards
burning out and things. I have no specifics, but a friend in the studio
down the road had major problems recently with that combination, and
warned me off buying another one. That said I used one last week and
had no problems, blah, blah, blah

Whenever I do something like this (ie. an external HD and a FW audio
interface), I use a FW cardbus adapter. It makes a lot of things easier.
Even though my PB has two FW jacks (400 and 800), there is only one
actual bus. Using a cardbus adapter gives you another separate bus and
it keeps the interface and HD from interfering with each other.
