Where have they gone?

Bought a tivo the other day only to find that it only has one tuner.
Seems that they don't have the duals anymore. Can anyone tell me why
the company would abandon this killer app?

I have directv and have an old 35 hour dual. I use it so much that I
would like to add more hours without having to do the hack.

You must have bought a Non DirecTV Standalone Tivo unit. All of the current

DirecTV tivo's have dual tuners

It has always been that way, for TiVo boxes that were not built
into a DirecTV receiver.

If you have DirecTV, then why did you purchase a non-DirecTV TiVo?

Where can I get one?

I figured they were smart enough to utilize the best function in the
box I have. I was wrong.

Anywhere that sells DirecTV DVRs. They are all DirecTV TiVos with dual
tuners.

That's not a Tivo.
Oh? What are they? Are you playing word games? Do you want us to say
"DirecTV receiver with TiVo technology"? Would that make you happier?

The DVR pictured on that page isn't a TiVo, it is the new NDS DVR.
Yes, the title of the page still says DirecTV DVR With TiVo, but
that's not the product shown.

However, if you specifically ask for the TiVo-based DVR, they still
offer them.

What kind of a moron buys a piece of electronic equipment without
first reading the specifications & some reviews of the piece?

Oh ya, you!

I think it's currently impossible to ask for a DirecTV DVR and NOT get a
TiVo. Is that not the case in the Detroit/NDS-beta areas?

Although the title of the page (and URL) still say TiVo, that's not a
picture of the TiVo unit, and following links gets you to screenshots of
the non-TiVo DVR
eg
http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/imagine/DVRincontrol.jsp

Looks like the web site is gradually being updated so it presents their
own DVR and not the TiVo one.

But it does have two tuners, which was the reason for the posting.

Someone purchased a TiVo instead of a DirecTV DVR and was surprised
to find it didn't have two tuners.

A TiVo is not a DirecTV DVR and vice versa.

No, the Detroit testing is for MPEG-4 HD, and the NDS DVR does not record
HD at all (nor can it decode MPEG-4 of any kind).
