Hi, I have a Sony Handycam Camcorder CCD-TR23. I cannot afford the
newer Panasonic 3 CCD camera that I want. What I am trying to find out
is if the lower end Digital Camcorders (pick any brand), 1 CCD, miniDV,
are better than the analog camera that I have. Transfering the film to
the PC is not an issue right as I have a Canopus ADVC-100 and it
transfers the data very well. But if the digital miniDV is better for
whatever reason, even on the "low end," then I could get one until I
can afford a higher end one.

Advice is welcome. Thank you.

Most likely it will be. The new Mini DV camcorders are really amazing, I
went from an analogue TRV-46 to a D8 TRV320, the jump was huge, one of my
kids bought a HC21 (lowest Sony Mini DV) and the quality is a huge jumo
again.

I figured that at least *something* should be better after nine years.

Better for what? The camera part of some of the previous
analog cameras were in many cases better than those of
the current generation of digital camcorders. But the tape
part of the modern digital camcorders are clearly superior
to any of the old analog generation.

OTOH, if it ain't broke, don't attempt to "fix" it.

What does this mean?

If you are replying to some specific previous posting, please
quote at least enough of it to preserve the context.
