Anyone who is considering buying a Philips product should be aware of the
situation with service support. Philips has a rather poor reputation for
support, and since they have engaged IBM to manage their service operations
in the USA there has been even more discontent among servicers. I would
discuss the matter with the local authorized servicers for Philips and be
certain that they will be able to provide support. Lots of discussion has
been taking place among servicers regarding problems with Philips support
and some servicers may be dropping them.

Since SPDI/F comes in both electrical and optical you need to be
specific. I use a small converter box to convert optical SPDI/F signal
to electrical.
(Can't help with HDMI.)

I called the Philips.store
[1-800-744-5477]
And was told not to worry that if a problem local service could not
repair that they would supply shipping box and shipping & return?
[$546.10 del]
{renewed 30PW9110D/37B=Black frame- but I think it was returned because
it did not have RCA/ audio jack out and people did not want them with
one SPDIF jack or Optical audio out? the info page says optical, but the
service guy I talked to said NO mis-print SPDIF/one wire coaxial only
for 5.1 dolby surround sound}
Sounds like Philips got on top of any problem with service?

The RCA I am replacing never needed any thing until day after Halloween
and can still be serviced [tries to come on 3 clicks and stops] was on
from early morning to late nite. And I would replace with widescreen RCA
but my Bush Entertainment Center is 34" 7/8 wide
And I could not find any thing else this nice that would fit? [ it's
33.858"] {RCA F32676/PIP May-1997 @ $6 per month}

Best Buy said for 4 years@$199 in home repair or replace. [
$699+199+50del+ Ma tax 5%] New] [30pw9100d=silver color]
The other store had 4 years service available at time of percase for
about the same /for renewed tv [@$199 I think ]

OK, if there are no servicers who can fix it and they have to take it back,
what do you do when it is out of warranty?
I would feel better about buying a product that the local servicers felt was
going to be adequately supported by the manufacturer over a reasonable
useful life. Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, and many others
would likely be rated much higher by most service techs in terms of
technical support and serviceability. Philips and Thomson (RCA) would both
be at the bottom of most lists.

Thanks for the thoughts Leonard!

Best Buys 4 year No Lemon guarantee for $199 looks good?
As in year 5 what would I want in a HDTV ?
What the new features would be I can not even imagine.
Thanks I have made up my mind; as having a blank screen in the living
room is to much for me to take. { Ha Ha }
I need PIP action, more later on the Philips 30PW9110/37B, I clicked
the Magic button on the world wide web.
I am already looking for a second remote for the other side of the room.
Thanks Again
