First off are there Mac users in this group if so I thinking of switching
from Pinnacle LE PC base to a G5 and Final Cut PRO. For MAC users what do
you like about it compare to other PC base editing systems? Is the learning
curve high?

He runs Avid on the Mac and Vegas on the PC. We also have both systems.

The system matters less than creativity, intelligence, and more creativity.

PS I like Canopus hardware and their Edius software... PC-based.

sorry, the mac's got avid on it - a left over from my pro days, mcxpress, so
it's relatively old. didn't like it particularly in the first place (we had
a full time editor then, who did).

played with fcp - but to be honest, i don't particularly like macs.

vegas 5 does the trick for me and my remaining clients (retired, sort of)

correct (didn't read your post before i replied, oops). and yes, agree with
you 1000%, creativity and intelligence. that said, the tools shouldn't stand
in the way of getting the results to the client (or with the mac, to the
tape)....

This puts the whole thing into perspective.

http://www.happynowhere.net/mac_parody.php

It is a little 3 meg video file that is a parody and explains the
exact top you have of switching to a mac for video editing.

I always keep it on my system. So very funny.

No reason to do that. None whatsoever. Just get Premiere / Vegas / Avid for
your PC. If you are working with Pinnacle stuff now you will be very
pleased.

Vegas Video.

video is video. the editing software used is a matter of personal choice and
personal preference. the MAC is not better in any form than a PC using
windows and a generic 1394 card. if you place realtime editing hardware in
either one then you are working in realtime, and you cannot work any faster
than realtime. A MAC with a 1394 interface is not realtime and you render
your ass off. same is true with windows PC's. some say a MAC is better for
video editing, but I have both in several processor levels and comparable
software and cannot dectect any superiority between the two. MAC's lock up,
and windows locks up at times.... anyone who says one is better over the
other has not used both extensively.
