Transferring images between memory cards |
|
|
My wife prefers to store photos (of our newborn daughter) on our
camera's memory card, so that she can whip it out and scroll through
200+ photos any time she wants. Trouble is, the memory card is now
full and we need to buy a new, larger-capacity card. Question: Is
there any mechanism for transferring stored images from one memory card
to another one? Thanks for any step-by-step guidance you can offer.

Copy to the computer via a card reader, then dump the files onto another
card.
Or if you want to be computer-free for some reason...get something like
this:

Personally, I think it's pretty silly to use memory cards as permanent
storage...but whatever floats your boat.
The other option is to get an Epson P2000/P2000, which lets you copy tons of
cards to its hard drive (40GB or 80GB), and view your shots on its
super-high-quality 3.8" VGA screen.
Here's the product:

Oops. That should have read, "P2000/P4000." |

If the camera is used to display the photos that were copied to
the new card, that may not be enough to allow the photos to be
recognized by the camera. It depends on how the viewing software in
the camera was designed. Some cameras are very flexible but others
aren't.

Nice device, but from what I've heard, if it is used to hold tons
of images, it can become worse than sluggish. Another alternative
which can be less expensive than the Epson (but which lacks its
archive capability) is to get a Win or Palm PDA with a nice, large
color screen. If the size of the photos are multi-megabytes, they
can be greatly reduced without losing much or any detail on the
PDA's screen, so even relatively small and inexpensive cards can
hold thousands of photos. Even those tiny, almost useless cards
that are included in the box with many new cameras, and which are
rarely used because they are too small could hold several hundred
PDA sized images - assuming that the PDA uses the same type of card
as the camera. |
