Copying DVD-RAMs to DVD-Rs |
|
|
I have two Panasonic DVD recorders without hard drives, and for the
past few months I've been making my timer recordings on DVD-RAMs,
editing out the commercials and re-recording the programs to DVD-Rs.
(The main reason I've been doing this is because the recorders
performed self-checks during timer recordings on DVD-Rs about twice a
week and as a result I got incomplete recordings, and I found that
doesn't happen using -RAMs.)
It's very time-consuming re-recording everything in real time, and I'm
planning to get a computer as soon as possible (I currently use WebTV),
so I need advice on whether it would be possible to copy DVD-RAMs to
DVD-Rs with a computer more quickly. I've read some threads which say
there are problems doing this because of the different formats.
Has anyone succeeded in doing this without having to purchase expensive
software? What I'm trying to find out is what I'd need to have in order
to do this, if it's possible.
Thanks in advance for any help.

My US$35.00 Lite-On DVD-ROM reads my Panasonic RAM disks well enough for me
to make good copies on my NEC-3500 burner.

LG 4167 to read the DVD-RAM
Copy the .VRO file to HD and rename to .MPG
Use VideoReDo ( www.videoredo.com ) "ad-detective" to remove the
commercials.
Create menus and burn DVD with MovieFactory 4 ( www.ulead.com ).

I don't understand how you can re-record your recordings from dvd-ram
to dvd-r without harddisks in your recorders and without the help of
-the hd- of a computer. Do you mean 'copying' instead of
're-recording'? Could you tell me?

Very interesting phenomenon indeed!
I always record to dvd-ram so this is unknown to me.
Is one of your dvd-recorders maybe a dmr-E65 like mine?

Buy the new 5x dvd/ramīs from Panasonic for slow but
quicker/than/before copying.

You will need a multiformat dvd-drive in the computer. It has to be
able to read\write dvd-r as well as dvd-ram so it will have to be a
LG(E) drive and one of the newer models that can write at 5x. And you
will have to use WindowsXP on it in order to avoid problems. There has
been said that you will need a īdriverī for the dvd/ram drive too but
I only use dvd/read which can be dowloaded freely from the Pioneer
site.
