Can DVD Players play MPEG2 data discs & fast forward during |
|
|
I'm looking for a new DVD player and since my PVR can transfer
recordings to a PC via USB, I figured it would be useful to be able to
burn the recordings as data discs with MPG files and save the time of
authoring them as DVD-Video discs. I only want to view once and then
reuse the disc; otherwise I would take the time to author a DVD-Video.
Anyone know of a DVD player that allows fast forwarding & rewinding
through a MPEG2 file? Obviously this is possible with DVD-video
discs, but I'm not sure if it is with MPG files on data discs. If so,
what sort of fast forwarding speeds are you getting? Cheers.

If the file size is small the Zensonic will play mpeg 2 files - I haven't
checked on what the upper limit is but I have done this in the past - copied
a mpeg file to a rewritable

Maybe I'm missing something, but why the need to transfer them at all if
they are already on your PVR? Watch them from the PVR, erase when
done...Thats what the PVR is for. Thats what Tivo's or Directv's DVR, or
etc...etc...The ability to play un-authored mpegs is called mpegiso on

I already know that many DVD players can play MPEG2 data discs; my
question is on the ability to fast forward during playback.
As for why I'd want to transfer from a PVR to DVD media; how about
playing the recordings in a different room!!! |

My Zensonic will fast forward okay and as I said as long as the file is
under 2 gig I think is the upper limit. beyond that it freezes

Thanks. The 2 gig limit is too much of a restriction for me |
unfortunately. |

LG LDA-530 does FF and FR on MPEG2 files. FF rates 2x, 4x, 16x, 100x. I just
got it and haven't used it on a lot of files but it does work just fine
zipping through the commercials. I find that 4X is probably the most
useful - you have to be real quick to catch the end of a commercial at 16X!
The LG was $99 Cdn which is probably around $80 US and that was without
searching for the lowest price.
Sure beats cutting out commercials or burning them as DVDs for just a TV
program that you don't want to keep. |

I use that speed all the time. But then I have a lot of practice.
If I run over a bit I can back up in no time. It's like playing with a
Game Boy.
