Compress 6 DVD's down to 1? |
|
|
What would be the best (and easiest) way to compress the six disk 24
series season one down to 1 or 2 disks and have it playable in my sony
slv-d300p dvd player? MPG1 would be fine because I just have a standard
TV. It would be nice not having to swap disks all the time. I've tried
renaming a VOB file to MPG but TMPGEnc won't accept the file. The manual
say's the sony player will not play DVD-ROM's but will play video cd's,
does this mean it will play MPG1 only from a CD but not from a DVD? TIA

Ouch.
That's serious compression - you will see a notable drop in quality.
Well, your best bet I guess would be to rip the episodes only, using DVD
Shrink(re-author mode).
Once you've ripped three disks, is then to use DVD Shrink again and add all
those episodes in re-author mode to one session.
Your other option would be to rip all the episodes to DivX or Xvid on the
HDD, then use Nero or DivxtoDVD or something to select them all and add to
one DVD session.
To be frank, if you can't be bothered to change 6 disks, why'd you buy them
in the first place? You are effectively throwing away all the benefits of
having the DVD's.

DVD Shrink will allow repeated compression. Each time it sets the
minimum, but if you do it again and again you can get it down to at
least 10:1. But the picture quality is not going to be very good at
that much compression.

You know, there was a story written in the early 50's perhaps called
Irtnog. (Not sure I remember the spelling some 50 years later) The
basis was that a computer was programmed to take in everything written
over a time span (perhaps a day, I don't really remember) and condense
it down to one word. The idea was that so much was being written, the
no one could keep up with it all, so they could just read the one
word, and know that they had not "missed" anything. the first word was
irtnog. What you are trying to do with 24 sounds just about as
practical to me.
