I know this sounds nuts, but since just about every consumer TV out
there - analog direct-view, HD Direct-view, LCD/Plasma/DLP, whatever is
over-driven in some fashion, would it be reasonable to use a broadcast
monitor as the head of a home entertainment system??

Even though the largest monitor is only 20", at least you'd be
guaranteed a D6500 calibrated picture out of the box, right? None of
the red-push, or Contrast and sharpness driven into the high heavens,
as with a consumer set.

Or, is there a do-it-yourself procedure to getting a consumer set to
within striking distance of the picture offered by a studio monitor?

Thanks for your "input" on this.

Many people use pro monitors for home viewing.
The biggest obstacle, as you have observed, is that pro
monitors are not availble in the larger sizes (without costing
more than your house.)
