I have an Alpine 7863 which is great but doesn't play MP3's. I am
wanting to get an IRiver to connect by cable (not wireless) to my
Alpine so I can play all the MP3 music stored on my IRiver through my
car sound system.
My local Car audio store says the 7863 does not have any jacks to
connect to the IRiver and suggest I just but a new Alpine which plays
MP3's.
During much google searching (and my handy owners manual) - it appears
my 7863 has some type of connector (Ai-Net Connector) designed to be
used for a changer, equalizer etc.. I seem to recall a forum where I
read there is an adapter which connects to this Ai-Net connector (which
evidently has two wires) and these wires then connect to an RCA jack.
Then evidently, an interface cable can be obtained to connect the
IRiver to my 7863.
Is my understanding correct - and if so, where can I obtain this
inerface cable? If I were to obtain this cable - is it something a
complete newbie can connect by himself or do I need a Pro installer to
do so?
If my understanding is incorrect - can anyone tell me how (if it is
possible to do so) to play MP3's from an IRiver through my Alpine 7863
without going wireless.
As always - I appreciate any and all assistance anyone can provide...

There is such an adapter. In fact, I think there's 2: one for use in
conjunction with an Ai-Net CD changer, and another adapter if you don't
have a changer. The adapters simply give you an auxillary input to your
Ai-Net HU. So you could plug in your Iriver or any other MP3 player.
Note that you won't have any control of the Iriver via the HU; this only
accomodates an audio connection to the HU.
I don't have the part numbers handy, unfortunately. But I can tell you
I bought the one for use with a CD changer for about $50 off of eBay
several years ago. Not sure how prevelant those devices are nowadays.
Have you spoken to an authorized Alpine dealer in your area? They
probably can give you more details about the part number you're looking for.
good luck,
