Two year wait? Probably NEVER for DirecTV/TiVo users.....I am still
using 3.1.0c
software version and it has not changed in at least 3 years (possibly
longer,I have not kept track) except to fix a system "bug" from the "b"
version......I would not count on it if you have a REALLY old 'series1'
type.

So what indication is there that this feature has been installed on a TiVo
unit? What type of indication is there in the to-do list that indicates
that
consecutive programs overlap and which one takes priority?

When you go to Tivo Central and it puts up a big-ass screen saying that
you've received an update. It's a pretty unmistakable indication, trust me.

So now I'm going to be looking for a big-ass to appear on my screen.
Well, not looking, exactly, more like dreading!

He's probably got a Series 1 box, which won't go above 3.1.*. 6.2 is for
for series 2 systems (and is a lot better; my girlfriend has a series 1
and is envious of the speed and features on mine :-))

Yes,I have a SONY SAT-T60 unit, and I do not foresee any further upgrades
to this unit beyond the 3.1.1 software facility.

Well, I did say it was unmistakable...just so you know, I think it was
Dennis Franz' big ass, but I didn't look too closely. ;-)

New TiVoŽ service feature!
Get 'em both with Overlap Protection™: In the past, if two of your
favorite shows overlapped by a minute or two, you could only record one
or the other. Now, with Overlap Protection™, your TiVoŽ box can record
both shows back-to-back by clipping just enough from the end of the
first show or the beginning of the second show, based on which has the
higher Season Pass priority in Season Pass Manager. Wondering how to
manage your Season Pass Manager? Read the next TiVo Tip.

Just "thinking out loud" here. I have a S1, so it's not as though I'll
get to test this myself. :-)

Suppose you have two SPs - A and B. Show A runs over one minute and
Show B repeats its episodes later in the evening.

Currently, Show A records with the extra minute then Show B records the
second airing.

With Overlap Protection, supposedly Show A will record with the extra
minute and Show B will record the first airing minus the first minute.
Yes? If true, then you're actually worse off because you're losing the
beginning of Show B. Unless there's some other option going on here.

That's a good question, does anyone know the answer to that? I don't
have 7.2.1 yet so I can't even try to test it out.

Go into the ToDo list, scroll down to Show B, and enter that show's
recording options. Look for upcoming episodes. Select the later showing
to be recorded, which will automatically cancel the earlier. Since this is
the way it was recording before, it shouldn't be too much of a hardship.
