Anyone still uses SVCD? |
|
|
And I need some helps.
I use ATI All In Wonder card to record TV shows and burn them into SVCD. In
the process, I use TmpgEnc 2.5 to trim out commercials and Nero 6 for the
final product.
My question is, if there is a good replacement for the aged TmpgEnc 2.5.
Basically I have to use it because it could fix TOC (table of content)
error. I have tried other editors like Nero Vision Express 3 and Womble
MPEG2VCR, both can't fix TOC. Any discs edited by these cutters will have
shorter playback time (about 2 minutes shorter each chapter).
My problem is that TmpgEnc 2.5 is quite old. It uses Direct X 8. If I
install Direct X9c into my computer, the TmpgEnc 2.5 will stop working.
Right now I really really have to install other stuffs which need Direct X9,
so I have to buy another editing software. But as I said, I have tried Nero
Vision Express 3 and Womble MPEG2VCR. They just can't fix table of content
error, so the SVCDs I burned are two minutes shorter for each chapter. I am
tired to try every editor in the market, so please help me if you know a
good one. Thanks.
(In case anyone wonders. Yes, I have no problem to burn the shows into DVD.
I just don't want to burn an one hour TV show on one DVD.)

Funny, my copy of TMPGEnc 2.5 is working fine with 9.0c,
what gave you the idea it wouldn't work?
Have you tried the trial of www.VideoReDo.com ? It has some
settings for SVCDs.
Luck;

Thanks for replying. I suspect it is my MPEG2 decoder. TmpgEnc doesn't
supply one. It just uses the one the computer has already installed.
Could you please tell me what your TmpgEnc enviromental setting is,
especially the VFAPI plug-in. Which MPEG2 decoder you use, and its priority
(compared to the priporities of Direct Show multimedia file reader and AVI
VFW reader.) Thanks again. |

Your clue helps me solve the problem. I just installed another codec (Ligos)
and now TmpgEnc 2.5 works fine. Save me some money. Thanks.
The system used to use Cyberlink DVD Player's Mpeg2 codec. |

Keep in mind that although SVCD does work fine for what it does, you can
get the same and higher quality encoding using DIVX/XVID/MPEG-4 codec,
then burn that AVI file onto any CD/DVD and play it just the same on
your decks & PCs. (Assuming you've got a DIVX compatible player like
the excellent Philips DVP642 - see www.fatwallet.com/c/18/ thread -
which plays DVD/CD/VCD/SVCD/DIVX/MP3/JPG/Audio CDs. Cheap at GoodGuys
right now because they're closing at <$50 per deck.)
This is an excellent way to go and it is widely compatible with many
DIVX compatible decks made today. (search for more at www.videohelp.com
-> DVD Players link) |

Oh, and if you're even smarter, why burn at all?
search yahoo.com on 'divx enclosure' and you'll find many, many
2.5" and 3.5" HD enclosures that will playback DIVX/VOB/etc files
directly from the HD inside. You can easily dump 5000+ divx avi files
onto a 500GB HD, and watch them all from your TV w/o burning or changing
a single disc. Buy another same sized HD to back everything up to, or
burn to multiple DVD backups to make a backup.
excellent way to keep your ENTIRE video.photo.mp3 library on a single
drive that fits into a lunchbox (or pocket for the 2.5" versions). |
