Had a male singer in tonight, very straightforward, operatic stuff.

Halfway through the show I got a request sent back to me from the
saxophonist asking me to turn the singer's wedges down as they were too loud
for him !!! Not turn the singer down in his monitor, no, turn the singer
down in the singer's monitors, the same monitor mix I've just spent 5
minutes setting up with the aforementioned singer.

If you read my earlier posts you'll know I've been having problems with this
sax player. Now I think he's on crack. This is the same sax player who told
me I had too much reverb on the horns despite the fact he's sitting on the
stage and can't hear the house mix.

Good luck Tim, he's your problem from Friday.

His vocal was fine, so I go and stand in front of his amp.
Sure enough, his Twin is breaking up like mad. A look in the
inside reveals that most of his tubes are so loose, they're about
to fall out. The pins are barely inserted in the sockets. (Hmmm?)

Any hints as to who this might be? I`m doing a 'well known blues
guitarist' soon and I heard he was 'problematic'!

I had a singer from a well-known band from a certain London postcode ask me

for another 150K in his monitors.

Now if he had meant 150KW then the wedges would have been charcoal.

If he meant 150Khz then he has the most amazing hearing.

Of course my take on the whole thing is that he was in fact completely Arny
(clueless).

I've had similar situations.
1
Bass player tells me: "I don't want
ANY guitar in my monitor".
Fine, there isn't any. Try not to stand *directly* in front of the
guitar amp.

2
Lead singer says: "There's way too much bass in my montior".
You have *none*. However, the subs are dead center, under the
stage. So, you're hearing the subs, from the house mix.

Also, I have had various people tell me to turn down someone
else's mix.
Not gonna happen, sorry.

I've had similar situations...

I had a pop vocalist with a symphony in the park and only one amp
channel available for monitors. The brass decides they must have a
monitor to hear the vocalist, I explain there's only one amp channel so
they're going to get what the vocalist gets and she calls what's in the
mix. They say 'OK,' we hook it all up, soundcheck starts, the vocalist
starts singing and the brass are holding their ears, motioning for it to
be turned down, etc etc. I go up and repeat the part about one amp
channel, what the vocalist wants is what everyone gets, etc. They ask
'why can't you just turn it down?' I repeat the part about ONE amp
channel...

Stupid trumpet players. We unplugged their monitor and ignored them on
the advice of the orchestra's stage manager.

Why would band memebers ask for that?
surely its the job of the foh guy*

*this is purely from a hearing point of view. The band not being able to
tell what the FOH mix is like on stage.

Try telling this sax player on here that. He thinks he knows better despite
the fact he is on stage and cannot hear the house mix.

Another old blues guitarist, wearing a turban, and the amp is a
totally beat-up old Peavey.
Iif you don't give him about 120 dB in his monitor, he reaches back
and turns ALL the knobs on the Peavey to 11, and then complains that
the monitor is feeding back.

If you'd stop making personal stabs like this, the newsgroup would be a
friendlier place.

If Arny were to stop being such a grade A twat then we wouldn't be able to
have a go at him and the newsgroup would be a much better place.

Why is it that when the band dont spec a seperate monitor board (and
certainly aint paying for one) they look to the side of teh stage for a
monitor engineer. When you put one in.. they get onto you first. Personally
i'd spot the PM3500 to the side of the stage.

I often get the opposite. Band members asking me for 'house mix'
adjustments/requests. *I'm* the monitor guy!
