HELP: RCA P61310 HDtv |
|
|
Greetings,
I have one of these TV's and it was great. Unfortunately, we live next
to the ocean and apparantly corrosion has set in on the main board.
We have an extended warranty, but they refuse to repair it because it
was caused by weather conditions, which isnt covered.
I cannot find anyone/anywhere to order the main board. RCA doesn't
even stock it.
I don't even know the part number on it, except that I was able to
find out its called the "main board."
Does anyone have any idea on what to do? I would hate to have to throw
this tv out because it can't be fixed.
Please help if you can, thanks.
Jeff

Probably will need to contact a rebuilder, such as PTS in Bloonington,
Indiana. Inform them exactly what happened to the set ans see if they are
interested in assisting you, or if thay have replacment boards available at
a reasonable cost, including the dud fee. Send them the defective board for
eveluation and repair estimate. These specific devices were extremely
inrticate in the design and a challenge to service. Add the effect of a very
corrosive agent such as salt water spray you may have rendered the set not
servicable for reasonable cost. |

You need to get more specific information about what is wrong with the unit
from your servicer. If corrosion is so severe due to environmental issues,
why is is just one board? The main chassis is listed as repair and return
only and not supplied as a discrete part. You can send it in, but even so,
I would want to know why the problem is so severe and why you would not
expect other boards to have the same problem.
Could be that the servicer was looking for a way out of a set that he did
not want to service (or did not know how to fix) and used the "abuse" as an
excuse to move on to easier money. I'd get another estimate of the problem
from someone who is a Thomson ASC.

Agreed: See if you can get an ASC that had done a lot of these DTV306/307
chassis. Seems that lots of technicians delve into these items with a relish
and others shyed away with a vengence. Make a point of having them
investigate the DM1 assembly also (Satellite Reciever) as well as the other
interconnective boards, etc as Leonard suggests. Bench level services highly
recommended. |

I hope you can get it fixed.
If you can't and you are interested in selling, please let me know.
