Why finalize an VR formatted DVD? |
|
|
I have an option on my DVD recorder to finalize a DVD-RW that has been
formatted as VR.
I can't see any advantage in finalizing a VR type disc as my DVD
player plays the disc in it's unfinalized state, and finalizing the
disc does not add a menu to the disc.
Are there any advantages in finalizing a VR type DVD?

Not all players will manage to play an unfinalised disk. For greater
compatibility (if you intend on playing the disk on other machines)
you'd be adivsed to finalise the disk.

Why would you finalize an RW in the first place?

Discs recorded in VR format can't be unfinalized.

Does anyone know the answer?
I have had two different versions of the ILO DVDR05 - the ZU and the
MU. The ZU offered you the option of Finalizing a +RW or not when you
opened the tray. If you did not Finalize the disc would not play on
another player. So you had to Finalize if you wanted to play
elsewhere. The MU not only does not offer you the option of Finalizing
when you open the tray, the Finalize function is greyed out in the
Edit menu which means you cannot Finalize a +RW with that version of
the unit. Yet you can play the disc on other players.
My question was aimed at clarifying this Finalize issue as it pertains
to +/-RW discs.
