Any endorsements for a really high quality mic cable for live recording? Is
the Belden 1192A Star Quad the right thing to be looking at?

Thanks,
Walt

Sure, that's fine. Personally I like the Canare star quad stuff because
it's more flexible. Other folks prefer the Mogami cables, although personally
I don't like the served shields. And Gepco and Gotham have adherents too.

Star quad is good if you'll be setting up in a high EMI environment
(which you may encounter in live recording situations). Otherwise, it's
not as good as single pair cable because it has higher capacitance, and
in general, is stiffer so it doesn't coil as nicely. Mogami, Canare,
and Belden are all good. Some swear by Gotham. Most swear at Monster.
It really isn't all that big of a deal.

Canare (and Mogami, too) make nicely flexible star quad cable. But
there are a number of other brands that aren't nearly that flexible.

By the way, I still have it all and need to get rid of it. If anyone is

Contact the original poster in this thread. He wanted to get some good
cable, and you got it.

I gotta call "B.S." on that one. When I did location recording, all my
cables were Canare star-quad, over 600 feet of it, and it always coiled
beautifully. Even the 4-channel snake was a breeze to coil.

By the way, I still have it all and need to get rid of it. If anyone is

No, Mike.

Your opinion is that Canare doesn't coil well. My opinion is that it does
coil well.

Where's the confusion in that?

The confusion may be in that Canare makes at least a dozen kinds of star
quad cable with different diameters. Although they have similar braid
configuration, they might wrap differently.

Thanks for all the responses. This forum and others like it are a great
resource for us just getting started types.

Cheers,
