I was taking photos at a gig where a few other people were also taking a
few shots and ended up with the following two:

http://twitsgivemetheshits.timchuma.com/CupEve311005/photos/photo7.html

I think if I time it right I can get a photo just as the other person's
flash goes off (mine was turned off). It may help if you know the delay on
your camera and get your friend to do the flash.

turned off (ASA400, auto everything else.)

This probably meant a rather slow shutter.
The movement blur would indicate this.
All I'm saying is that when you shoot with a slower shutter, the chances of
having cross-over flash increases.
