Any known problems with Panasonic DMR set top recorders?
I've had two DMR-E80H recorders since they were introduced and they
have been problem free. I want to pick up a recorder without a hard
drive and was wondering if there were any problems with any of the
DMR series recorders-E30, E50, E55, E60, ES10, or ES20 or any other
models.
thanks

I've had my DMR-EH60DEBS for about a week now, and all seems well, this is my
first Panasonic DVDR and so far I am pleased with it. I'm not so keen on its
chrome-like finish across the front display panel, think it would have looked
better using a black plastic like some earlier pannies, but I can live with
that. (Purely a personal thing)
Picture quality is superb, and although not totally silent like my old
Philips75, its not noisy, it does have a fan at the rear, but only seems to come
on occasionally. Having the built-in freeview has rendered my external box
redundant and is much preferred, I've tried burning to several different
brands/types of discs including very cheap media, and all seem to work fine.
My son has the ES20 and is very pleased with it, though he has stated he wished
he had paid a little more and got one with the H/drive for improved editing
purposes, though its no big deal as ram-discs give the same benefits as I'm sure
you are aware.
If your like me and tend to power off everything at night, it can take a minute
or two when powering on next day for the freeview TV/Guide to read its
information back in.
Would also have been nice to have the TV/Guide show info about the programs,
although program details can be displayed by pressing a separate info button
after the program is selected, a info sheet in the box suggests this may be
upgraded by firmware at some future date.
