Studio Monitor recomendations |
|
|
Any recomendations on a decent, economical powered monitor suitable
for a hobbyist? By economical I mean around $250 apiece or less.
Or would it be more economical to buy some non-powered monitors and
find a good used amp? Not sure if I could do that for under $500.
I'm recording and mixing mostly acoustic music, maybe the occasional
drum kit or an electric guitar, if that makes a difference.

That's not a recommendation, that's a long list of things in the price
range. How do you expect someone to "check out" all of them? |

Behringer Truths, despite the presumptious model name. |

I recently acquired a pair of KRK RP-5's for just under $500usd that
I've been pleased with for the price. I use them for less-critical
applications when travelling so I don't have to pull my Genelecs out of
the studio.

Check out some Fostex PM1's. They're 6.5 inchers and they sound nice for the
price.
Good luck. |

NHTpro M-00
A tad short on bass, but gets the rest of things pretty darn right. |

I agree, but I find the shortness on bass a real problem. How about
a pair of Super Ones and a power amp?

thanks for the suggestions thus far, I'm going to see if any of these
are available locally to me so I can check some out.

Just be aware that Hafler is no longer making these and will probably not support any repairs.
However, that said, I've had a P3000 for eight years and it's been nothing but flawless the whole
time. Make sure you give it lots of room for ventilation as it is a convection cooled amp.

I am very, very happy with my KRK RP-8's. I think the KRK RP-5's are within your price range, and Paul White gave them a thumbs up, as well.
Update: Zzounds has the RP-8's listed at $189. |
