DVI and Motorola DCT-6412 |
|
|
I've been running HD from my Motorola DCT-6412 to my Sony TV with
Component cables for some time with no issues.
Today, to free up a Component input on my TV, I switched to a DVI cable
from the Motorola to the Sony.
Everything works fine, except a get a slightly noticible bar of
distorted color that moves across the screen from right to left about
every second or so on all HD channels. Not too bad, but annoying enough
to make me wonder what's causing it. Any ideas?

Hi Jim,
Sorry I cannot answer your question above, but, I'm curious, who is
your cable provider? Mine is Cox Cable in So. CA
Do you have the Series III Motorola DCT6412 Dual-Tuner DVR? The "III"
has a small fan on the bottom, near the front panel display.
The reason I ask is because I'm on my FOURTH Motorola box. I've had
AWFUL problems with them, and am quite certain many others in my area
have too. I wonder if you've noticed problems with yours?
However, its been suggested that the problems I'm seeing are software
related, which then points to the cable provider (Cox) rather than the
manufacturer of "the box." If your provider is different than mine,
and your DCT6412 works FINE, that is something I would really LIKE to
know. Maybe your cable provider will tell MY provider HOW to make this
box work? <g>
If you're curious about what my DCT6412 does, look at the following
link for a 30-day "log" of its performance.

Note that there is an underscore character on both the left and right
sides of STB in the file name.

| I'm with RCN, a local fiber-optic provider in the Philly area. |

I believe I have one of the first 6412s. Not a series III. |

Look underneath. If it has a small fan, it is a Series III. The first
two versions had MANY more problems than mine, and mine is awful.
Any problems with yours? Blinking lights? Fails to record a show?
Picture FREEZES and will not re-start? Show stopping in the middle of
playbeack and box asking if you want to delete now? Etc. <g>

What brand of DVI cable are you using? A cheap cable can be the cause. The
DVI cable that cames with my Samsung HD DVD player was cheap but when I
replaced it withan RCA one the results were very noticable.
