DEI Remote start question (OT?) |
|
|
Hello,
Hope this is the right group to post this, if not is there a better group?
Newbie here with question on Valet 561R install. Recently had it installed
on a 2000 Corolla that had factory RKE and no security system. I didn't want
to carry two fobs so the installer connected the 561R keyless along with the
remote starter. All works well but two questions for you. The factory RKE
had drivers door priority but that is now lost with the DEI unit. Any way to
get it back? Second, when I exit the vehicle I frequently use the factory
equipped drivers door mounted master door lock switch to lock the doors.
When I return to the vehicle and attempt to use the DEI remote fob it will
not open the doors on the first try. Instead I can hear the relay and
actuators pulse but the driving lights flash once indicating that the unit
locked the doors when they were already locked. If I press the remote a
second time it then unlocks the doors. This only happens when I lock the
doors via the factory switch and unlock via the remote fob. Is this normal
and am I damaging anything by doing this? Thank you for your time.

Your new system, it's memory and brains are now controlling your |
vehicle. The lock/unlock functions that are available are those
supported by the new system (Valet 561R). Locking your doors using the
factory system will act the same as manually pushing down the lock
buttons as far as the Valet is concerned. The new system has no way to
know that the doors have been locked since the factory and Valet system
can't "talk" to each other. Because the Valet did not lock the doors it
only knows the last state it provided (unlock). That is why it takes
two presses of the button, one to synchronize the Valet with actual
condition, locked, and the next to perform the unlock procedure.

The drivers door priority can be done, but will require extra parts and
labor.
When you lock the doors manually without the remote, the 561R doesn't know
you have done that, so when you press the button coming back to car, it
tries
to lock the doors 1st. then the 2nd press unlocks them. It will not hurt
anything,
but may be easier if you just use the remote for lock and unlock |

Thank you for taking the time to explain. I can definitely live with the
system as is. I am impressed by the range of the remote, an honest 400-500
feet, more with nothing around! Just didn't want to damage anything.
