I had hooked one up at work yesterday, hooked it to a 5.1 channel set
of Accusound DL895s (I have these at home hooked to an Onyko 501)

The Speakers are 6ohm, the Philips rates itself at 100W into 4ohms. I
wasn't expecting much from this system, I mean how could something that
weighed so little, have HDMI switched, DCDI, etc actually be all that
good? With a price of $1499 I expected very little.

Boy, was I wrong. Watching Spiderman, Eagle When Hell Freezes over in
DTS, cranked to max volume this amp simply pumped, clean, powerful
sound without a trace of distortion. This sounded far better than my
setup at home by leaps and bounds. Actually i've ran thse speakers on a
Pioner 1015, Onkyo 602 & 702 and this little Philips sounded the best
with these speakers.

Shame Philips australia doesn't market their prodcuts well, or at all.
They simple have an awesome unit here, that deserves to be priced a
hell of alot more. It's packed with features and delivers in the sound
area.

On the picture side I haven't had yet to test is upscaling & hdmi
switching capabilities. I'm waiting on a Cineos DVP9000 dvd player to
go together.

Quote:
From what i've read and heard the DV9000 is another awesome unit. In
the past I would never have once considered buyings a Philips product,

now, well i'm swayed the other way.

I have an upscaling DVD player that has HDMI but I didn't buy it from Hardly
Normal. My experience with staff there is that I usually know about ten
times as much as they do about anything related to AV.

I bought one from Harvey Norman in Martin Place, Sydney.

Ordered it on Tuesday and am hoping to get on \Friday so i have the
weekend to play around with it. I managed to get them down to $110 by
playing off one salesman against another (obviously they weren't there
at the same time).

I'm glad to here a postive experience of it though.

I too am bewildered at Philips lack of marketing of this product.
Whoever the Marketing Manager of Philips Australia is should be fired.

Well put it this way. There are many competitors in my town and I've
had customers who've been to all, and simply said that to me that I
knew more than any of them put together. I unlike most of the others
who work with me and most other sales droids in other stores, I
actually make the effort to research products, ask questions I give
customers straight out honest opinions, I've told many customers that
monster cable is overpriced and that they don't need $300 cable.

The result? I work on the weekends only and sell more than 80% of the
other staff members.

It's an awesome little unit, as I said its performance running big 6ohm
DL896 Accusound towers was just amazing. It's almost as if the speakers
were perfectly matched to it. I've got the exact same speakers with an
Onkyo 501, and believe me the Philips put my Onkyo to shame, personally
it sounded better than even with the Onkyo 602 hooked up.

YEs I agree, Philip's Australian marketing manager needs to be sacked,
but apparently the reasoning for the lack of promotion is "insufficient
money" go figure?

I'm honest enough to tell customers which products are shit and which
are good. I've told many who were buying or contemplating buying a
PTAE700 things be possibly aware of, like premature globe failure.
Because they'll either find it out off me, or they'll find it out off
the net or someone else. And some people will have done their homework,
come in and ask you questions they already know answers to, such as "do
you know of any problems iwth the unit." I've done this myself many a
time, and I only buy off people that are honest and don't bullshit.

I apply this idea when I deal with customers.

So simply don't hold it against the places you buy off like Harveys,
not all sales droids in those places are mindless money hungry drones,
some actually care and know what they are talking about.

I've got a set of great KEF KHT2005.2 surround speakers. Was wondering
if you had any info as to how they sound when connected to the Philips.
They sound great when attached to my 5 year old Kenwood amp.

As for a lack of money. How can they justify spending a truck load on
R&D and design and manufacture and then go "Oh sorry we haven't got
enough money to market the product". If it doesn't sell well then
Philips only have themselves to blame.

Who knows, someone companies logic makes no sense. All I can say is,
its Philips. They are only doin the DFR9000 through Harvey's and no one
else, which doesn't make any sense. Next time I see the rep i'll ask
them, or I should just ring him, his name is Alistair.

No idea how the KEF's would sound we don't do KEF's. I haven't had much
time to test out the Philips with any other speakers, we do though have
a big set of Klipsch speakers, may hook it up next week. I've taken
this weekend off for uni exams :(

I'm sure the KEFs will sound good. Was just curious if anyone else had
used them.

Latest from Harvey's. Went down at lunch to see what was going on.
Apparently Philips only sent out the unit yesterday (Thursday) even
thtough Harvey's ordered it on Tuesday afternoon.

Now they're saying it won't be in until Monday or Tuesday. Well if
it's been sent out from a warehouse in Sydney how does it take three
days to get to Harvey's. I think someone is pulling my chain.

Which Harvey's did you order from?

It happens, the delays are usually supplier or delivery. In some rare
cases a lazy sales-droid forgets to either generate the purcahse order
or doesn't fax it to the supplier.

We've got a couple in at our store (In Victoria), ask if any other
nearby stores have one in stock, they can then just do a branch
transfer, and you can go pick it up for the other store.

Ordered it from Harvey Norman's at Martin PLace in Sydney. They're
usually good. I hope tp have it Monday or Tuesday next week. Pretty
shoddy considering it's coming from a warehouse in Sydney. I thought
we lived in the 21st century not the 18th.

Come to think of it they didn't even offer to check with other stores.
Thought that was standard practice.

Checking with other stores IS not standard practice, since we're al
franchised. And quite simply when we do a branch transfer its the other
store that actually gets paid, not the store actually making the sale.
Hence why they aren't keen to do it. It's normally on done if a) the
customer asks b) customer is desperate c) its necessary to make the
sale d) customer does not want to wait
