I had almost decided to purchase a Pioneer or Panasonic DVD Recorder
with a hard drive so that I can edit the commercials out of TV shows
that I want to save on DVD, but then it occurred to me that these units
could be obsolete in the US in two or three years. Since the US is
converting exclusively to digital TV, I'm thinking I should wait until
digital units are available so that the unit will be able to change
channels. My understanding is that downward compatibility with the new
standard will require the use of a set top box. Is that correct?
