Has anyone successfully downloaded and installed PowerDirector 5.0 from
the Cyberlink web site? The download went fine. What you get is
theusual zipped file which then fails during file extraction every
time. I've downloaded several times from different sites and get the
same results every time. Of course I've already been notified by
Cyberlink that they had no problem hitting my charge card. As a rormer
software engineer, NOTHING ticks me off more than lousy quality control
like this.

After downloading, disconnect from the internet, and close down all other
programs, including AV? Might help?

Cathy, thanks for the suggestion. I have never heard of having to
close all applications to do a simple unzip (I haven't even gotten to
to point where I can install) but I'll give it s try since Cyberlink
has yet to respond to my messages posted thru their web site. Would
you believe I would have to pay them $30 to be able to talk to a
person? I am not impressed with Cyberlink so far.

I hope it helps...sorry you are out the $30! Is there an email for customer
support? Be sure to disconnect from the internet before disabling all your
other software (AV, firewall, etc) prior to unzipping and installing.

Did they offer a 30 day free trial? That is always helpful to see if it is
worth the $$$.

Maybe try the 30 day free trial of MovieFactory 4 at www.ulead.com ?

Cathy, I canceled the order with Cyberlink. They sent me an e-mail
that provided instructions that were beyond the pale. I did get in
touch with Level 5 who happens to be a software distributor for
Cyberlinks. He told me that Cyberlink sometimes provides them with
corrupted files which they then have people download thru the Cyberlink
web site. I'd rather not bother with this so I ordered PowerDirector
from an Internet retailer. I'm now awaiting an e-mail to tell me how
to download the software. BTW, I switched from PowerDirector 5 to
PowerDirector 4 which is all I really needed. And I saved $20 in the
process. I'll let you know how it turns out. If the problem was on my
PC I should have the same problems when I download from the retailer.
I'm betting I won't have a problem.

Cathy, I downloaded PD4 from the verndors web site which took literally
hours and ended up back at the Cyberlink web site to find and download
patches. The patch download was just about the same size as the
original download so I suspect I've basically got a whole new
executable. I have not had a chance to play with PD4 much. But last
night I was playing with the music dubbing feature and that was quite
impressive (great selection of music - haven't figured out how to use
my own music yet). The software seems to have a pretty solid feel.
Response time is quick (running XP on a 1.5 gig Dell) and certainly no
crashes but then I haven't asked it to do much yet. I'm looking
forward to using a one-stop app for a change and not having to use
different apps to perform steps of the process.

I will post again when I think I've got a good handle on PD4.

Thanks again.

So far PD4 is a solid, intuitive product. I am far from having fully
exercised all functionality but what I have used, has worked well. And
it's great to not have to use many different products to get the job
done. Mor to follow.
