What happened to Mackie SR-40 consoles |
|
|
What happened to the large format SR-40, 56, etc series consoles?
Who has the story on these? Should I, or should I not buy one.
Thanks

They were quickly discontinued because they were very unreliable.

Did they have the ribbon cable problem like our SR32 did?

They had ribbon problems, logic problems, psu problems, all sorts of
problems. Good riddance.

I wouldn't advise buying one. They were a problematic beast. If you are
interested in 8 buss Mackie desks, take a look at the Onyx 80 series
which appear to be superior. But I'd be more inclined to purchase
offerings from Allen & Heath or Soundcraft.

Don't go there. They didn't survive in the market because in general
none of them worked long enough to compete. You definitely do not want a
used one.

Avoid like the plague.
I was house engineer at the Mayan Theatre in LA when they launched them in
98 at NAMM. They set up this big night with a live band to demo the boards,
saying they would be a PM3000 killer.
Both boards had banks of channels down out of the box, one desk died
completely that night.

They weren't shooting very high if they called it a PM3000 killer in
1998. The PM4000 was introduced 6 years earlier in 1992, and the 3k was
long gone as a product line by 1998.
