I have replaytv and I'm thinking of switching to Tivo with the DVD burner
and I have a few questions. First of all is it possible to watch a tv show
while the tivo is recording another show?

It depends. The short answer is yes.

If you have analog cable you can run the RF right into the TiVo, then
run the RF from the TiVo to the TV as well. When you put the TiVo in
StandBy the RF is bypassed to the TV so you can use the TV's tuner
while the TiVo records.

If you have digital cable then you use an RF splitter before the cable
box. Split the line into the cable box and the TV. The TiVo controls
the cable box (which can only tune one thing at a time), so while that
is in use you can use the TV's tuner for any analog channels.

Note that you could so the same thing with your RTV.

Will I be able to download the recorded shows to my pc with a
wireless connection with Tivo?

Yes. I *strongly* recommend 802.11g, and not 802.11b. You'll want an
adapter from this list: http://www.tivo.com/adapters

And last of all how is custiomer service with Tivo?

I've only dealt with them a couple of times, but they've been good to
me so they seem OK.

I usually solve my own issues - and there is a list of resources:

Actually, they do now. Version 7 of the software has been rolled out to the
DVD boxes as of either 7.1 or 7.2 (7.2 brought "Go To TiVo").

7.1 gave the non-DVD units TTG, 7.2 gave DVD units TTG - and all units
TTCB. (TiVoToComeBack - that's what TiVo people have been calling it
around the net, apparently the intenral nickname for it.)

If I am recording Cold Case for instance and my husband wants to watch the
ball game it will not switch channels and makes you watch whatever you are
recording. I can watch shows that are on the replaytv while it records a
different show but not a live show on another channel.

You are trying to use the PVR to do everything. A PVR is for time
shifting. You split the cable ahead of the box and feed the box and the
Replay. You connect the Replay A/V outs to the TV A/V ins. The TV an
Replay are then independent of each other for watching and recording.

Yes I know. Everything was networked fine when we had comcast with a cable
modem and a linksys router. We switched to verizon and they installed a
westell router/modem in one. The whole network is pretty much screwed up and
verizon tells me to contact replaytv and replaytv tells me to call verizon.

I have a linksys ethernet bridge attached to the replaytv.

You do not want to mix different bridges. Linksys requires 3rd party
firmware to operate well in WDS mode.

Ask the cable company for JUST a cable modem and use your own (Buffalo
router/bridges). If they do not have a modem only, get one yourself.
Comcast charges $3/mo for a modem and takes that off if you get your own.

Ok, good to know exactly when they were included. Too bad the Directivo
models won't get it :-(.

I think Cold Case repeats a lot. You may want to record his game and
let Cold Case case that show when it repeats later that night or
whenever.

You could make an autorecording wishlist for his games and give it
higher priority in Season Passes than Cold Case. That way they both
show up in Now Playing and no one is watching (shudder) live tv.
