Plus and minuses of Henry's |

I plan to buy a Rebel XT (CDN999) with a goodies package (tripod, CF
card et.) and would like to know what experiences folks have had with
Henry's, which I believe is a Canadian company.

I bought three cameras from Henry's.
Had a problem with one. They were there to assist me. Very good service.

From what I've experienced, they're very good to deal with (at least my
local store) and they have a 14-day "no questions asked" return policy
and 21-day over the counter exchange for defective items.
But they don't usually have the best prices unless something is on sale.
So you get good service, but you have to pay for it. :)
However, I believe they will match prices, so in order to get the best
prices, you need to shop around and then bring competitor's prices to
them for price matching. |

I live in Toronto, where Henry's is based, and have bought lots of
stuff from them over the years. I've only made one online purchase
from them; everything else has been bought in person. I haven't had
any problems with them and expect to keep buying from them (as well as
other dealers) in future.
The only caveat I'd suggest is that most of the prices on their
Web site seem to be the same prices they'd quote you if you walked
into the store. But if you walk into the store, you can haggle,
and unless you're buying something which is already at a special
sale price, or is selling so quickly that they know the guy in line
behind you will buy it if you don't, you can pretty much always
negotiate a better price. You can't do that online; either you buy
it at the price shown, or you don't buy it.
Now, I'm guessing that the package you mention is a special deal,
in which case you're not likely going to pay more this way. This
is similar to the one online purchase I made from them, a lens which
was on special at a price which I figured was what I'd end up paying
if I walked into the store and haggled when it wasn't on sale. So
if that's the case, you're not missing out on the opportunity to
cut a better deal in person (or via phone; I've never bought from
them via phone but maybe they'd let you negotiate that way, just as
you would in person).
Here are a couple of other Canadian online photo equipment retailers.
This is not by any means a complete list, nor have I dealt with any
of them other than the first one.
