I have a Toyota Corolla and am wanting to hook up some subs & amp. I'
not lookin to be heard 5 blocks away but I want some nice, deep bas
that kiks & sounds good. I listen to mostly hip-hop & rap, but m
problem is that I dont know ANYTHING ABOUT THIS STUFF. I have a frien
whose into this and whose told me he thought I would be satisfied with
600-700 watt amp and I know I want 2 12" subs. I'm not looking to spen
a whole lotta money and could use some direction -- what amp & subs t
buy (brand and power specifications so I know nothing will b
overpowered) and good sub box to buy. I'm about to get an Alpine hea
unit and I've got Infinity front & rear speakers. CAN ANYONE HELP?!?

Try to listen to some different stereos to get a feeling for how much
power you need and what you want in the way of subwoofers. Not too
long ago, 600-700 Watts and a pair of 12" subwoofers was a HUGE
system. My first "big" system in 1990 or so had a Linear Power 2202IQ
bridged to mono, putting out about 375 Watts into a pair of 12" subs,
and it was way more than enough, even in a VW Jetta four-door.

My wife's car is a Toyota Paseo, which isn't much smaller than your
Corolla, and she has 40W going to each of the four interior speakers
and 110W or so going to a single 12" sub in a sealed box, and it will
handle just about anything she throws at it.

If you go with 700 Watts and a pair of 12" subs, you start running
into issues like using up most of your trunk space, and possibly
having to upgrade your alternator as well, depending on how efficient
your amp(s) are.

line the doors with a couple layers Dynamat or other brand of the same
stuff...you'll soil your self with sheer glee at the improvement in SQ
when it's done. Imagine a house w/o insulation...it's -40 out, and
running the furnace full blast the house is no warmer than 50.
I have many other analogies, just ask.
