With more and more DVD's being 8X minimum where does that leave people with
DVD Recorders. Are there any 8X's that work in this situation? The DVD's I

Thanks for your help so far. I am writing to Sharp as well. Went by Best
Buy yesterday and this unit is still on the shelf there.
Isn't there a law against this as well. Some sort of obsolescence thing?

LMAO! If that were so we'd still have 8 tracks

The drive in the unit just doesnt have support in the firmware for that
specific brand disk or speed. Easily fixed with an update to the firmware.

I have a Sharp DVD Recorder that's only a couple of months old. It takes
DVD-R blank discs but only 4X. When you put 8X's in it gives you an error
saying that the disc is possibly not playable and does not allow you to
record on it. Sharp technical support said the 8X's are too thick and
only
4X's work in any DVD recorders. Is he just blowing hot air or is there
something to this.
The even weirder part is that if I take the same DVD-R 8X disc and burn a
movie on it on my computer it plays perfectly on the Sharp unit.
Anyone else have this problem.
With more and more DVD's being 8X minimum where does that leave people
with
DVD Recorders. Are there any 8X's that work in this situation? The DVD's
I
was using are Sony.

Tried Fuji as well.
I am not going to go out and buy a bunch of different brands just to find
out they will not work. Especially if the guy from Sharp technical support
told me it will not work. Even though he might have been in India it still
sounded like he had had that complaint before.

what a shame you didn't latch onto it before a reasonable period has
passed. Some places would probably have accepted it back within a few
days as being unacceptable for your needs.

DVD recorders also have firmware, normal just a matter of burning it to
a CD and placing it in the DVD recorder while doing a certain
operational sequence at startup which you would be instructed to do when
you download the updated firmware

Yeah, I've noticed it mentioned but neither of the ones I have owned
(sharp for a VERY short period and this panasonic) seemed to have
firmware upgrades available
